Privacy by architecture

Your screenshots never leave the device

Most screenshot tools upload images to share them. Screshot was built the other way around, so security teams have nothing to assess on our side.

  • Captures and edits happen in a local extension page, never on a server
  • No account, so there is no user database and no password to breach
  • The extension makes no network requests
  • Your team decides where an image goes: clipboard, download, or nowhere

No, nothing is uploaded. Screshot captures the tab you are looking at and opens it in an editor that runs entirely inside your browser. Your images never leave your computer unless you choose to download them or paste them somewhere. There is no account, no cloud storage and no tracking inside the extension.

Three, and none of them shows a warning when you install. "activeTab" lets Screshot capture the tab in front of you, only at the moment you click the icon or use a shortcut. "scripting" lets it scroll that same tab during a full-page capture and then put it back exactly as it was. "contextMenus" adds the right-click menu on the Screshot icon. Screshot cannot read your browsing history or see tabs you did not capture.

No. Screshot is free and works right after you install it. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required.

Yes. Screshot is a standard Chrome Web Store extension, so it can be force-installed and pinned for any group of users from the Google Admin console, Microsoft Intune or Windows Group Policy. There are no accounts or licenses to manage.

Screshot is a free Chrome extension for taking screenshots and marking them up. Capture the visible area or the whole page, then crop, draw, add text and blur private details in a built-in editor, and download it or copy it to the clipboard.

Visible area: click the Screshot icon or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Full page: right-click the icon and choose "Capture full page", or press Alt+Shift+S. Screshot scrolls the page for you, stitches it into one image and opens it in a new tab where you can scroll through it, copy it or download it. For visible-area captures, the editor lets you drag to keep only part of the image, or double-click to select all of it.

Crop, blur (to hide emails, names or tokens), pencil, straight line, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, highlighter and text, with a color picker and undo/redo. Blurred areas cannot be un-blurred from the exported image.

Click Download to save a PNG to your computer, or Copy to put the image on your clipboard so you can paste it straight into Slack, Gmail, Google Docs, Jira or any other app.

It works on almost all websites. Chrome does not let extensions capture its own pages, such as chrome:// settings and the Chrome Web Store, so the icon will not work there. This is a browser rule, not a bug.

First make sure Screshot is up to date and refresh the page you are capturing. If the problem continues, or you want to suggest a feature, send us a message from the contact page. We read every message.
